Feeling anxious about life going back to how it was before Covid?

Updated: Aug 28, 2022

Are you feeling apprehensive about life going back to how it was before Covid?

Right now, so many people are experiencing fear, doubt and anxiety about certain aspects of life going back to how it used to be for them before Covid interrupted our lives. It could be returning to a toxic work environment after all this time working from home. Back to social engagements and groups that you actually didn't miss. Back to family demands and challenges that were reduced by lockdown restrictions. Back to manic lives that left no space for you, for balance, for space to breathe.

Simply put, you could be afraid right now of losing what you gained in this time.

I myself am a (mostly) recovered people pleaser. I have always been a helper, a doer, a can’t say ‘no-er’ and in truth, Covid made it significantly easier to maintain the healthy boundaries I had worked hard to create over the last few years. So right now, I too am also feeling a little worry about what old patterns and ways might rear their ugly head as I lose the excuse of Covid in coming days and weeks.

As with any challenge, it helps to be aware and prepared. So use this time to re-envision life as you want it to be as we move into this new phase of normal in our lives. Connect to this and you will empower yourself to keep those boundaries strong and be sure to maintain what YOU NEED going forward, how you want YOUR LIFE to be.

Take a pen and paper, grab a cuppa and give yourself a little space with these questions.

  1. What’s one thing that is expected of you now that restrictions have lifted that you really don’t want to do?

  2. What changes happened in Covid times that actually brought you more peace, freedom or happiness in life? What did you learn about yourself?

  3. What good can you hold on to that came out of this bad?

  4. What’s one courageous change you’d like to make to stay true to yourself in this new normal?

  5. If I make this change, what would life look like? How will I feel after I do it?

And remember, it is ok if you don’t feel ready to get back to ‘normal’. It is ok if you want to say no to things that are expected or asked of you. It is ok for you to choose YOU.

"In the rush to return to normal, use this time to consider which parts of normal are worth rushing back to. If things go back to exactly as they were, we will have missed the opportunity to take the good from this bad" - Dave Hollis
